Integration:
This innovative FD in NBM is a high-level introduction to resilience-building and fatigue risk management, which are elements in CFPC’s accreditation. We aim to provide direction and insight into future research and FD programming to cultivate faculty well-being, such as serial workshop offerings, establishing communities of practice, etc. We hope to gain a deeper understanding to guide future research in generating possible theories explaining the reasons for faculty integrating NBM.
Given NBM’s versatility, this initiative has the potential for widespread impact across all DFCM residency sites. DFCM has ongoing efforts to improve its FD curriculum, and we have heard from stakeholders about their interest in program development. We plan on presenting a workshop at a Faculty Development Committee meeting to train other FD Leads. Moreover, we are making arrangements to update Site Directors at an upcoming Residency Program Committee meeting on this curriculum. Since the PI is also a member of the CFPC Faculty Development Interest Group, this curriculum can be presented nationally at the annual meeting at FMF.
Impact:
This FD bolsters all four principles central to FM and addresses numerous CanMEDS-FM roles. It also contributes to the CFPC’s FD vision of “leading family physician well-being”. Our long-term vision for this project is to establish NBM as a core component in FD, thus enhancing the culture of reflective practice.
A Work-in-Progress poster will be presented at the upcoming FMF. We hope to disseminate our findings at the next DFCM Conference, the FMF, and the Creating Space Conference (Canadian Association for Health Humanities) in 2026. In the future, we hope to submit abstracts to the International Congress on Academic Medicine (iCAM) and manuscripts to the Canadian Family Practice Journal, Canadian Medical Education Journal, and International Journal of Whole Person Care.
